Matthew Nickels is a licensed master level social worker who works with children, adolescents, and young adults in a variety of areas. Before coming to From Within he spent a year as Hunter Lane High School’s social worker in North Nashville. At Hunters Lane, Matthew provided individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention for the student body. While in graduate school Matthew interned with Metro Nashville Public Schools and KIPP Academy focusing much of his clinical work
around trauma.
Matthew takes a client centered and strengths-based approach to counseling, meeting each person where they are at. He works collaboratively with his clients and empowers them to make meaningful change in their lives. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of Matthew’s counseling, and he always seeks to strengthen that bond. Matthew has experience using various evidence based therapeutic modalities, and often blends styles based on client’s needs. Some of these include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy.
Matthew is a big sports fan and enjoys running, climbing, and board games with friends in his free time.
Education
Matthew received his Master’s of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee and his Bachelor’s degree from Furman University.
Matthew's Rate is $135 per hour.
Availability
Matthew is currently accepting new clients. He has daytime hours as well as after school hours available.
